Only Believe!

I was looking back this past week thinking about what God has done for me as a favor. Favor? What? You say God does favors? Yes, I believe He does.

When I first made Jesus my Lord and Savior, at the age of 17, I read the Bible constantly. I flew through the New Testament in what seemed like days. The verse that stuck to my heart was Mark 11:22-24. I read that verse over and over and within a short time God showed me the reality of that verse.

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
(Mark 11:22-24)

After reading that verse over and over and over, I made the decision to pray and ask God to help me purchase a Snowmobile. It just so happened, that very week (Isn’t it interesting how this happened right after I started believing that this Bible verse was true?) an acquaintance in school told me about a fairly new 340 TNT Ski-Doo that had been wrecked in a snowstorm. Cool! If I got high bid at the Insurance auction, I could fix it up for less than half the cost of a new snowmobile!

Here’s the background story on the Ski-Doo that was up for auction. The couple that owned the snowmobile loaned it to a friend. He took the machine out one night in a blinding snow storm. He was blasting across a lake at wide open throttle, when out of nowhere another person on a sled, not being able to see each other in the blinding storm, collided with him. Both drivers were injured; the driver of the TNT had a broken arm and both snowmobiles were totally demolished.

The TNT Ski-Doo was taken to the nearest Ski-Doo dealership in Mankato to await an auction by the insurance company. I prayed about it, asked God to help me buy it. And I asked Him to bless me with favor. I contacted the Insurance Company and placed a bid on the machine with a number that popped into my head. $752.40. (I added the forty cents in there just in case someone else bid $742) The sled would need a new hood, a new ski and some major frame welding, belly pan reconstruction and paint.

I asked God in faith that my bid would be the highest bid on that snowmobile. Meanwhile, the Ski-Doo dealer also placed a bid with the insurance company on that machine; they were so confident that they submitted the highest bid that they started removing parts to repair other snowmobiles. I believed that I had highest bid.

Guess what? My bid WAS the highest bid! The insurance company awarded the damaged 340 TNT to me! The dealer had to replace all of the parts they removed from my TNT with brand new factory parts! (HA)

With my Dad’s help, we totally rebuilt the sled. The damaged broken hood was replaced with a new factory hood. The cracked aluminum frame was re-welded for free by a friend of my dads. I straightened, smoothed and repainted the aluminum belly pan, (A little body work with a hammer) then added a new ski and repaired other parts that were damaged.

I basically ended up with a nearly new snowmobile at about 1/2 the cost of a new one.

I used the snowmobile for two years. Man! Was that thing fast! I had hours and hours of fun in the snow.

“We love this model, we had one just like it a couple years ago but…”

At the end of two years I decided to sell it. I placed an ad in the local paper with an asking a price of $950.00. Only one couple answered the ad. They came to look at it and started to tell me this story. “We love this model, we had one just like it a couple years ago but we loaned it to a friend and he was going across the lake in a blinding snow storm…” I could not believe my ears! They described the very accident that brought that TNT to me!

I tipped the sled over a bit and showed them where I had fixed it and told them that this was the very same machine. Without even negotiating, they handed me $950.00 cash and took the sled home.

I asked God in faith believing for help on purchasing a material thing. He got me a Snowmobile that I kept for two years and then sold it back to the original owners for a $200 profit. THAT is how God works. Favor! The God kind of favor! Remember if God will do it for me, He can and WILL do it for you!

“Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.”
(John 16:24 New American Standard Bible)

You know what? If God cares about the little things going on in my life, do you think He cares about even bigger things that you are going through right now?

FAVOR! What are you waiting for? Ask!
